Why use Joynn?

Joynn is not a social media app. Joynn is an all-inclusive social interaction app. Joynn is all about you. It’s about finding what you want, when you want it. Use Joynn when you’re out and about involved in your everyday activities, for work or play, to find and connect with others on-the-fly.

What are the Joynn color modes?

Joynn is the language of colors. Colors indicate your intentions and the intentions of others. Change your color on the fly or deactivate to go off the grid! Each color has its own meaning and customizable profile. Joynn provides the language for real-life interaction in four different color modes. 

Orange Mode

Orange mode tells others around you that you want to hang out, network, make friends, collaborate on community issues, meet other parents for spontaneous playdates for the little ones, basically whatever. Orange is all about meeting up for spontaneous, authentic human interaction with anybody.

During the sign-up process, you selected either male or female as your sex. While Joynn respects each and every gender, we ask this question in order to know which Joynn users to display on the map for you. Orange mode is the mode to find and meet anyone, regardless of sex, gender, or anything else. We want everyone to be able to find and meet up with anyone for any reason without the pressures of romance or sexuality.

So why do we ask your sex in the first place? Let us explain the next three color modes.

Blue Mode

What do you do if you’re a woman, your guy is too busy with football and buddies, and you just want to find other ladies for a girls night out? Or, if you’re a man, and all you want to do is find other guys for some poker, fishing, a pick-up game, or just a few beers – what do you do? You use blue mode!

 

During the sign-up process, if you selected male as your sex, all the blue dots appearing on the map (Joynn users broadcasting in Blue mode) will be male. If you selected female as your sex, then all the blue dots appearing on the map (Joynn users broadcasting in Blue mode) will be female.

Green Mode

Guesswork is work. Drop all the cheesy pickup lines and use green mode to break the ice, strike up a conversation with the opposite sex, and know with confidence that someone wants to meet you! Use green for everything from dates and dancing to finding your life partner.

During the sign-up process, if you selected male as your sex, all the green dots appearing on the map (Joynn users broadcasting in Green mode) will be female. If you selected female as your sex, then all the green dots appearing on the map (Joynn users broadcasting in Green mode) will be male.

Magenta Mode

Maybe you’re looking for someone of the same sex…or both. We gotcha covered. Magenta mode is your way to find romance.

If, during the sign-up process, you selected “male” as your sex, and in your Magenta profile’s “Interested in…” field you specified “Same sex”, then all the magenta dots appearing on the map (Joynn users broadcasting in Magenta mode) will be males who have also specified their interest in same sex.

If, during the sign-up process, you selected “female” as your sex, and in your Magenta profile’s “Interested in…” field you specified “Same sex”, then all the magenta dots appearing on the map (Joynn users broadcasting in Magenta mode) will be females who have also specified their interest in same sex.

If, during the sign-up process, you selected “male” or “female” as your sex, and in your Magenta profile’s “Interested in…” field you specified “Both sexes”, then all the magenta dots appearing on the map (Joynn users broadcasting in Magenta mode) will be males and females who are also interested in both sexes. 

If, during the sign-up process, you selected “male” or “female” as your sex, and in your Magenta profile’s “Interested in…” field you specified “Neither”, then no magenta dots will appear on the map (Joynn users broadcasting in Magenta mode).

How do I chat with others on Joynn?

The Joynn chat feature is designed to help break the ice so you can take the next step of chatting in person. Simply select the color dot of another user on the map to view that user’s profile, or use our search function to select a user profile. If you like what you see, tap “Joynn” to send them a Joynn request and start a chat. Learn more about Joynn’s search feature here. However, because Joynn is all about connecting in real life, you must be in the same color mode as a specific user and within 1,320 feet from that user to be able to send them a Joynn request and start a chat.

How do I chat with others on Joynn

Why does Joynn have a distance limitation for connecting with someone?

Since Joynn is all about connecting in real life, we use a 1,320 ft proximity requirement for connecting with other Joynn users. We believe this requirement has the potential to significantly reduce the number of spammers and trolls, from distant locations, who may or may not have any intentions of meeting in real life.

What is Pause?

Got a Joynn request but not ready to chat? Simply use Pause to decide on it later. Pause is not a rejection. It simply says you need more time. Your Joynn request will be waiting for you in your Pause Queue.

What is the Mode Selector?

Joynn is the language of colors. We provide 4 different colors for interacting in real life. Each color has its own meaning, customizable profile, and status description. Using the Mode Selector, you can quickly switch between any one of your color profiles or simply deactivate and go off the grid!

When switching between your color modes, you have the opportunity to use or edit your Status Description to tell others what you’re doing, where you are, or how you want to meet up in that specific color mode. Use it for anything you want to say. Change it as you need. When other users tap on your color dot on the map, they’ll see this description. You can also edit it in advance in each one of your color profile editors.

What is the Mode Selector

Do I have to turn on my color mode to view other users on the map?

No. You can remain completely invisible and still view on the map the profiles of other Joynn users, anywhere in the world, who have turned on their specific color modes. However, because Joynn is all about connecting in real life, you must be in the same color mode as a specific user and within 1,320 feet from that user to be able to send them a Joynn request and start a chat.

What happens when you send a Joynn request?

When someone receives your Joynn request, the receiving Joynn user will have 2 choices:


1. To accept your Joynn request:

If the recipient accepts your Joynn request, you will now both be able to communicate freely using the Joynn chat feature. All chats are located in what’s called the “Joynn Queue”. The Joynn chat feature allows users to break the ice and get to know each other before taking the next step and meeting up in real-life.
 

2. To pause your Joynn request and attend to it a later time:
If the recipient pauses your Joynn request, your request will go to their Pause Queue to be attended to later. If your Joynn request goes unnoticed by the recipient, it will automatically be moved into their Pause Queue to be attended to at a later time.

What happens when you send a Joynn request

What is the Joynn Queue and how does it work?

When you have connected with another user (i.e. either you or they have accepted a Joynn request), all your chats between you and that user will reside in the Joynn Queue where you can select and continue your conversation with them. Each user in your Joynn queue will have a color outline around their avatar that represents the color mode in which you connected with that user. You can also quickly view their profile for that specific color mode by clicking on their avatar.


If you decide to no longer remain connected with a user in your Joynn Queue, simply swipe left on a given conversation to take the appropriate action: “Delete”, “Block”, or “Report” appropriately.

What is the Pause Queue and how does it work?

The Pause Queue contains every user who has sent you a Joynn request that you either paused or left unattended. Each user in your Pause Queue will have a color outline around their avatar that represents the color mode in which you paused them. Tapping on a user allows you to view their specific color profile so you can decide if you want to continue to keep them paused or accept their Joynn request, in which case they will be moved to your Joynn Queue. By swiping left on the user, you can also delete, block, or report them.

What is Joynn’s Search feature?

Although you can click on any color dot on the map and view the profile of any Joynn users broadcasting themselves in a specific color mode, Joynn has a powerful search feature that allows you to go one step further. Type in any keywords, possibe interests, personal or professional attributes, descriptions, hashtags, etc. to find other Joynn users matching what you’re looking for. Here some examples.

  • At ComicCon and only want to meet up with other Spiderman fans? Type “spiderman” or “#spiderman” (if you want to search hashtags) in the search bar.

  • At a gaming convention and want to find your fellow Minecrafters? Type “Minecraft” in the search bar.

  • At an airport, waiting on a delayed flight, and want to use your time for networking with other financial professionals? Type “finance” in the search bar.

  • In your college library and can’t find someone to study with for the upcoming Organic Chemistry test? Type something like “organic chemistry study group” in the search bar.

  • At a block party and want to find other neighbors who are also in the medical device field? Type “medical device” in the search bar.

  • At a computer trade show and interested in communicating with VoIP professionals who are also fans your favorite basketball team, the Spurs. Type something like “VoIP Spurs” in the search bar.

  • Showed up to a wedding without a date and want to meet a single lady who’s also into Roblox? Type “Roblox” in the search bar.

  • You’re headed to Starbucks and want to chat with a fellow Yorkie lover. Simply type “Starbucks Yorkie” in the search bar.

 

Joynn’s search is not limited to people. You can also search places. With Joynn’s powerful search feature, the possibilities are unlimited for finding and connecting with like-minded people.

How does the map filter work?

 By default, all active Joynn users are displayed on the map in their current color mode. Use the Joynn map filter to see only specific colors that you want to see.

What are my Profiles?

Use the Status Description to tell others what you’re doing, where you are, or how you want to meet up in that specific color mode. Use it for anything you want to say. Change it as you need. When other users tap on your color dot on the map, they’ll see this description. You can also edit it in advance in each one of your color profile editors.

What is Basic Info?

The Basic Info section is the main portion of each of your color profiles. It includes basic attributes and an “About Me” section where you can tell others more about yourself, particularly as it pertains to that color mode’s profile. Unlike the Status Description (which is meant for more on-the-fly use), the About Me section is used to tell others more about who you are.

What is On-My-Way?

On-My-Way is a Joynn feature that allows you to broadcast your location not where you ARE but where you WILL BE. Simply tap and hold a desired location on the map to drop an “On-My-Way” color mode ring, which looks like a normal map dot but now contains a white fill, signifying that you plan to be in that location soon. The mode selector (this time with color rings instead of color dots) will pop-up for you to choose the color mode you’ll broadcast in upon arriving at your destination. Placing an On-My-Way color mode ring on the map turns off your current location broadcasting and color mode and places an ETA (estimated time of arrival) counter on your Status Description so that when others tap the On-My-Way ring you placed on the map, they will see your Status Description as usual; except now they will also see a timer counting down to your arrival. As soon as you arrive, you will be asked if you would like to proceed with broadcasting in the chosen color mode. If you agree, your ring will resume as a standard color mode dot in that location.

On-My-Way allows you to plan spontaneous get-togethers for any activities that others might want to join in on.

  • Heading over to the boat rental and wanting others to split the costs, share the beers with, and join in the fun? Drop a Blue or Orange On-My-Way ring.

  • On your way to the pier and wanting some new fishing buddies? Drop your Blue On-My-Way ring for some bro time.

  • You’re headed out for a hike and want others to join you. Drop an Orange On-My-Way ring at the trail head.

  • You’re a lady and want to invite other ladies to join you for your daily run. Drop a Blue On-My-Way ring at the park.

  • You live in the city but want to plan a spontaneous party with others on the beach. Drop an Orange On-My-Way ring at the beach.

  • Your favorite movie just debuted today, but all your friends are out of town. Drop an Orange On-My-Way ring and tell others which showtime you’ll be arriving for.

What are Joynn Cards?

You don’t need Joynn cards to use Joynn, but they can help. Plus, they’re free! Phone died? Need to “unplug”? The Joynn language doesn’t stop at mobile devices. Use our Joynn cards to show your mode…in real-life. Simply place a card nearby you (with the mode side facing up) so others can see it and know exactly what your intentions are! If you need to Pause, just flip the card over. Each card has a Pause mode on the back. It’s that easy!

Am I being tracked by other users?

No. You are only visible to other users on the map when you choose to select one of the four color modes. You can always make yourself invisible to other users (indicated by a gray mode button and gray map dot visible only to you) by changing your color mode to off (“x” in the mode selector). For your safety, Joynn will automatically turn your color mode off after a certain amount of inactivity unless you choose to allow it to keep broadcasting your location in any color mode.

Nothing. We are not in the business of collecting or selling anyone’s info. We just want people to experience real life interactions, away from their devices.
